CHRISTMAS IN GAMLA STAN

I'm in love with this super cute small streets in Gamla stan, the old city of Stockholm. There is a special atmosphere when walking around there, especially now at Christmas time.

On Saturday, while wondering around those small streets, I also visited 'Stortorgets Julmarknad' Christmas market (or while trying to find the Christmas market, I first walked around Gamla stan a while). I was maybe a bit disappointed because the market was so small, but on the other hand it was so cute and atmospheric.

BYE BYE AUTUMN, IT'S WINTER NOW

Wow, a real winter came like in a day. I don't know if nobody was ready. Check out those leaves on trees, they are yellow and still there. Like I said in previous post (here) that it was already snowing a bit during the weekend but when I woke up yesterday there was like a small snow wall on the other side of my window and it was snowing like crazy. Everything was just white and is still.

I wasn't surprised about snow coming, it comes every year. Okay, maybe not this early and not this much at a time but still. They said at news paper that yesterday was the snowiest day of November in 111 years here in Stockholm. Anyway, the thing I was surprised was Stockholm public transport. Like come on. I used to live in Brussels, Belgium, where I understood that snow can mess up the public transport and close schools but in Sweden. One of my classmates from my Swedish class (where we were just 7 yesterday) told that their seminars were cancelled because of the snow and lack of the public transport. Bus lines have been cancelled and those which are not run late, trains are running really randomly with over one hour gaps and even metros can be late. I also heard that some people were asked to go home from their office yesterday in the middle of the day. I understand, who wants to dig a car out of snow after a work day? I also understand that if it is the snowiest day in November in 111 years things get messed up but I thought those could be fixed by next day.

Today, when it was not snowing anymore, I was waiting for a buss about 15 mins at the bus stop before realizing that there is maybe no bus coming. I walked to the other street and waited there like 10 mins and saw that the bus line I waited at the first stop and one which I could have taken from the second were both totally cancelled with other bus lines. Really didn't want to stay and wait for a bus which was running cause who knows when it would have come. So in the end I took a metro, which I should have taken in the first place, and was 45 mins late from a meeting.

And why I was so surprised? Well I'm from Finland and I haven't seen the same kind of problem there. Of course snow surprises every year, but buses are still running, maybe late but still. Trains maybe cancel one or two shifts but that's it. Everyone are still going to work, still going to school. Digging their cars out of snow.

Hopefully trains are working tomorrow cause I need to travel with one.

Enjoy the winter!

BY NIGHT

A week ago on Saturday I had a feeling that I need to get out from my room. I took my camera with me and went to the bridge between Gamla stan and Södermalm to take some pictures and play with shutter speed. This was my first time taking this kind of pictures and I really like how those came out even though I didn't have any stand, I was just using a railing of the bridge. Still have a lot to learn.

I also like the vibes on the park pictures, some kind of halloweenish :D I can really feel autumn in them. Overall my favourite top three from all the pictures are maybe 1st, 6th and 8th in mixed order.

On that Saturday I had lived in Stockholm 2 months and tomorrow it is already November, crazy.

It was already one month ago when I packed my stuff, said see ya and flied to Sweden to start a new chapter in my life. This month has gone super fast but it has been really really nice one. I have got many new friends, tried to get used to studying again (still working on this one), got to know and enjoyed my such a beautiful new hometown. Stockholm has felt like home since I landed here. I truly enjoy my life here right now with fashion studies, friends and sunny Stockholm (today was cloudy though).

These pictures are from the first week, from the first Friday when we did a walk with girls in Gamla Stan and in Södermalm.

STOCKHOLM HALF MARATHON

 photo P9100357_zpsojngv1me.jpg

No, I wasn't running. Yet. Yesterday when I tried to find a café to "fika" with my friend we got next to Stockholm Half Marathon. And it looked so fun! I have taken part to a running event in my hometown four times now but never ran a half marathon even though there has been a possibility to do that. I have always run the original run which is 15 km. Last year I tried to practice for half marathon but then just two weeks before the run my knee started to hurt and I had to stay on cheering team.

Anyway I got an idea yesterday that maybe next year I could also be running along Stockholm's streets in early September with thousands of other runners. That would be a nice goal. First run that 15 km in my hometown in the end of July and then keep practicing till Stockholm Half Marathon in early September. But let's see how my running goes next summer.

The first week in Stockholm. Wou, first I have to say that I love this city! I got warm welcome with more than 20 degrees and full sun. And what comes to those colourful houses and water all over, can I just get that emoji with hearts for eyes and put it like x 100000000.

During my first week I have got friends from my class, got a lot of information about our University during the orientation day and got to know a bit of the city as well. But then I also got fever (because of the stress, I was told) which made me to rest and sleep quite a lot. During the weekend I only watched couple episodes of the O.C. and tried to keep my eyes closed and chase sweet dreams. I really hope I'm getting better now!

THE NEW CHAPTER

 photo P7122292 2_zps2nhprmrj.jpg

It's been a while. It's been a summer and I hope you all had a wonderful one. I think that autumn, which is coming quite quickly by the way, is time for something new. Schools are starting, people are starting new hobbies or old hobbies after summer break or at least shopping new autumn/winter clothes. I haven't told you yet but I will also start a new chapter in my life tomorrow and I'm super super excited about that!

I'm becoming a student again, going to do my Master's in Fashion in Stockholm University. New country, new city, new school, new studies, new friends, new almost everything. It's been 6,5 years since I visited Stockholm last time on student cruise but I'm sure I'm gonna love that city. And my studies with fashion as well.

So next time I'm writing from Sweden! Have a nice week everyone!
